I thought it was time to start writing again. Sumer has just started and I feel as strong and inspired as ever...
So, have you ever heard someone say "Helping others is satisfying."? I have. Way too many times. I feel as though people that say something like this, don't really know what helping others feels like. It's as if they've totally missed the point. This piece of writing is a comment on helping others and its profundity.
Helping others is much more than satisfying. The mere word satisfaction is a meager notion that only brushes the surface of the true power helping others brings us. It is a comment that undermines the importance, fulfillment, enlightenment and empathy building that the act of helping others grants us...
I have always wondered why our society portrays the sacred knowledge of happiness with the word satisfying. It boggles me that one could think that satisfaction is the right choice of diction for something that can solve all of our problems.
When we describe powerful things with a weak word, we have simply not sought further than the simple, shallow feelings. Satisfaction is a shallow feeling in comparison to fulfillment... Imagine you are the universe. You have all the magic and planets and darkness within you. Then one day, you realize that there is light inside of you too and suddenly darkness doesn't exist anymore. The stars shine so brightly that they transcend their physical self and enlighten every corner of your world... By uncovering/discovering that there is light, love and possibility within you~you can't help but share it. Why? Because light is one of those things that infects its surroundings. It travels so fast that no one can stop it. It fills spaces like yours and others' bodies for instance... This is fulfillment.
Where does this light talk find its way into good deeds and service? Helping others is all about empathy. Like many other things, empathy plays a key role in helping others.
When you decide to help someone out with something, wether it be their emotional state or a passionate project, you are really agreeing to surrender to their situation. By surrendering, you can crawl out of your own skin and immerse yourself in their challenge. You understand what they're going through or what they're feeling and that is where empathy is at its truest, most wonderful form.
You have now successfully found empathy for another creature. Next, you must do something about their problem. You must help them, but how?
The best part about helping others is that for most, it comes instinctively. It is the chance we have to once again rediscover our inner light and it's perpetuating power. When we're in an empathetic state, we've literally crawled into the other's emotional skin and there is where we see our light shine and infect yet another beautiful being...
We revel in each other's inner light... and then we call it satisfying... Perhaps now you see what I see. There is satisfaction linked in to the result of helping others, though it is the shallow waters of a deeper process. A process that is so deep and embedded in our being that it is almost like the universe itself where darkness hides when light, itself shines.
